Praying for a Miracle

He took one look at me and asked, “Are you OK?” I told him I was going through a hard time. He asked me if I wanted to talk, so we went and sat in my dorm room, and for the first time in my life someone shared the Injil (Gospel) with me, telling me that Jesus Christ died on a Cross for my sins. He drew a picture of sinful man and a holy God with a huge gap in between the two. I knew that was my case. I had tried through religion but I could not reach God. In fact, I thought that I may have offended God so much that He really hated me. I was very confused about it. But now this guy was telling me of a God who really loves me and about salvation, that I could be saved not only from my sin, but also from an eternity in hell. He told me if I believed that Jesus died on the Cross, God would forgive me and wash me and cleanse me of all my sin and give me a new beginning in life.

My Muslim head was fighting with what he was saying because we had been taught that Jesus didn’t really die on the Cross and that He is not the Son of God. I was arguing in my mind, but in my heart I was so hungry for a reality of God. Because of all the knowledge I had learned previously, I was stuck. Not knowing what else to say, I said, “I’m a Muslim.”

He said, “I don’t want to argue with you. Can I just pray for you? Can I just bless you?” I said yes. I needed prayer so much.

I thought he would begin to speak in Latin and do the sign of the Cross over me, or go and get some holy water or from the tap and sprinkle it on my head. That was my concept of Christianity. He put his hands on my shoulder and began to pray that God would give me a miracle, that He would show me His grace and love, that He would bless me and help me. And he prayed that God would help me to stay in school. A peace came over me. It was such a peace, I felt almost drunk. It was an amazing peace like I had never known before. I just felt that everything was going to be OK. He left and I never saw him again. Within one week I had not one miracle but two.
